Happy 50th!

...to my Great-Uncle Shirley and Great-Aunt Marilyn!!!

We recently traveled to Grant County to celebrate the event. It was so nice to see our extended family and celebrate the special milestone!!!

Quips and questions

Rebecca amuses us with her little quips and questions every day:

Upon flushing the potty not too long ago Rebecca said, "going to airport."
I laughed and corrected her and now she knows "it" goes to the sewer.

Rebecca's great aunt gave her a rubber mommy duck and two baby ducks for part of her birthday gift. Rebecca recently surveyed the trio and said, "where's Daddy?"
I found another, larger rubber duck and handed it to her.
"Here's the daddy," I said.
After accepting the Daddy duck, Rebecca smiled and said "fam-wee."
How sweet!!

One evening, I hear Rebecca saying, "need telescope."
"What do you need a telescope for?" I ask.
"(to) look at things far away," she promptly answers back.
I still have no clue where she learned this information.

One evening, I got mad at Rebecca about something.
Rebecca said to me, "mommy mad."
I tell her, "I'm not mad, I'm happy. I was just angry about what you did, but I'm still happy."
She said, "no you're not."

After another instance of mommy anger, Rebecca said to me, "I want Mamaw."

These are only a few examples. She keeps us on our toes every day!!

Rebecca can now do somersaults. What fun!

She has also been staying dry at night. Good riddance diapers and Pull-Ups!

Happy birthday John!

My husband celebrated his 28th birthday on June 11. We were in Maysville that day and I brought him a Dairy Queen ice cream cake at work. He and his coworkers were happy with the surprise.

I gave him his present early - a Canon Digital Elph SD 880. We already own a Canon G7, which we purchased just prior to Rebecca's birth. It's a great semi-professional camera, but too bulky for John to tote around every day.

I now carry the G7, while John can tuck away his little Elph and have it available for any occaision!

John received several cards and phone calls from friends and family. He said that he had a nice birthday. I sure hope he did! He's certainly special to us!

A cool birthday bonus: On our way home from Maysville, we saw a double rainbow in Paris!

Rebecca's a big kid now...

NEWS FLASH: Rebecca is potty-trained!

We made the switch to big-girl underwear last Wed. and sat her on the potty once every hour.

The first 2-3 days were awful - but after that, wonderful! Life is so much easier!!!

Big sigh of relief...

One exception: She still wears night-time Pull-Ups to bed. Even if I cut off fluids after dinner, she is still wet in the morning. I figure she can't hold it all night just yet...so we'll try a little later. Naps are dry.

Rebecca celebrated her second birthday May 12. As you may know, Rebecca shares her b-day with my great-grandmother. Rebecca was born exactly 100 years after my Granny's birth date. Rebecca also shares her birthday with her great-aunt Tami and my cousin's wife, Melanie.

Unfortunately, my great-aunt, Ann Chinn, passed away on this date this year. We will certainly miss her!!!

On a much happier note, Rebecca's parties began a couple weeks before her birthday when her Nana and Hop (John's parents) came down to visit. It was great to visit with them! Rebecca was doted with gifts from her great-aunt Kathy and from John and Jean. Among them: a cute stuffed frog, an adorable outfit, her own luggage, an electric jeep and a wonderful keepsake birthday quilt made by Nana.

Rebecca loves all her gifts and frequently tells us how "cute" they are, but we have one cute story about the Jeep.

One night John was going to take Rebecca to Lowe's with him in our car when Rebecca asked, "How 'bout my car?"

She loves the thing... She likes to drive around our cul de sac, stopping only to pick flowers. She isn't the best driver in the world just yet, but she has the function of the "gas" pedal down pat and is getting better and better with her steering.

Birthday party #2 took place the weekend before her b-day in Maysville. My parents had a cook-out and a lot of family and friends were able to join us. Rebecca had a blast! She stocked her closet at this party! She also stuffed her bank! Additionally, she took home some great books, a game and a super-cute Daisy Duck raincoat.


Rebecca's final party took place at home. Our upstairs was filled to capacity with friends as we celebrated with a Mickey and Minnie cake and pizza!!! Rebecca got all kinds of stuff and enjoyed blowing out her candle and eating the cake.


We feel so grateful that we have such great friends and family that love us AND OUR KID so very much!!!

Deep Freeze

We recently purchase one-half of a beef (my parents purchased the other half) and a deep freeze. For the deep freeze, we looked for the best deals on-line, then used a 10 percent off coupon and received an even deeper discount by purchasing a floor model.
There is a significant initial investment - but boy are we saving money now! Plus, the meat is yummy and organic! :-)

I can also use the deep freeze for other great food deals I may come across!
